Artist's Comments
This is the final print of "Lifelines", and at the same time, it's a completely different image. Mostly because printing is such a dynamic media - you are always moving forward - and whatever happens, happens. As you can see, there is much more happening here, and although I think it has a more unified feel, this is also a bit too chaotic, maybe?
Etching and drypoint on 300g hahnemüle paper - printed by the artist. Not a perfect print, but I like it. Please, feel free to give me critique on this. And for the love of Pete: full view! There are some amazing details here. That's also why the file is kinda big. Hopefully you'll take the time and bandwith to see this, it's only half a megabyte, after all! |

Anyhow, my opinion on this piece is that too much. I mean, I'm not able to focus much on the person, instead I seem to try to find interesting forms and figures in the red area, I mean there is a sail boat, there is a map of Norway, oh, a anatomically correct hand with 5 fingers including the oposable thumb! That is fantastic, so many strange figures here, so much cool stuff, oh, there is that old guys face what is he doing here?
Anyhow, what my stream of consciousness was trying to say to you is something like, you overdid it. Keep it simple. And if I were to color it, I'd go for the sharp colors on the person not the background.
I guess I said everything I had on my mind there, ah, felt good. It's just that this is the piece in your gallery that I think I like the least. (I think I had alot of steam to let out in this comment, I must have been mad at something that I'm not aware of maybe?)
I'm drawn to look at the face because it's such a stark white in contrast to the red of the background.
That face, by the way, is amazing. The wrinkles and expression of it are very well-rendered.
The way everything is sort of fragmented at the edges speaks of something, I'm not sure what. But that was pulled off pretty well, too.
Erm....I don't know. It's all rather consistent, so I think that makes it pretty good. *did the full-view! Whoot!*
